These cute ceramic piggy banks were hand-made by pottery artist, Sally Ravindra of Purcell's Cove Pottery (right here in Nova Scotia!)

We've thrown in a few coins too...just to get it started.

Dragon Ceramic Bell

Our Christmas Tree!

Have you seen our shop window lately? We put up a Christmas tree. It's all hand-made in-house.

Many people have already come in and asked to purchase it! (You can't imagine how happy that makes us!) That big one is not for sale but we made a few smaller versions that can be purchased... and quite a few have already gone!

Have you seen our original hand-made greeting cards? In the spirit of kiri-e (the Japanese art of paper-cutting), each greeting card design is made from painstakingly hand-cut paper. Each one is one-of-a-kind. ...and you won't find them in any other store!

Hakodate's Christmas Fantasy

Tonight, we will be lighting up the Christmas tree at the Grand Parade in Halifax.

On December 1st, another tree from Halifax will be lit. This one will be in far away Hakodate, a city in Hokkaido, Japan. Hakodate is Halifax's sister city. Every year, Halifax sends a Christmas tree to Hakodate. The people of Hakodate greatly appreciate this. On the poster (below the dates) it says,

"Christmas tree from our sister city, Halifax."

The tree is the main attraction of the

Hakodate Christmas Fantasy

celebrated every December on the Hakodate waterfront. They light it up accompanied by fireworks. See also below a promotional video from 2008.

'Tis The Season

Now that we got the first snow out of the way, we are officially declaring the start of the holiday season for the shop! :-)

Our shop holiday schedule:

Nov 27 ~ Dec 24 10 am - 7 pm (open everyday including Sundays)

Dec 25 & Dec 26 shop closed

Dec 27 12 noon - 6 pm

Dec 28 ~ Dec 30 10 am - 6 pm

Dec 31 & Jan 1 shop closed

Jan 2 12 noon - 6 pm

Jan 3 onwards 10 am - 6 pm (back to regular business hours...

Sundays closed except on lesson Sundays)

We will also start giving away our hand-made Japanese postage stamp gift tags in token of our appreciation. (Good while supply lasts.) We have lots of new stuff in the store so please come over for unique gift ideas. See you!

Holiday Tabi!
